Travel Itinerary and Road Trip Route

Day 1: Nabokov's Work and the Historical Heritage of Pskov

To see as many interesting places as possible, you should leave early today. You will visit the manor house that Vladimir Nabokov described in "The Other Shores", wander among the lost ruins and explore the Pskov Krom.

Saint Petersburg

Музей-усадьба «Рождествено»

On your way to Pskov, have a look at the Rozhdestvenno estate. The history of this place is inextricably linked to the fate of Vladimir Nabokov. The owner of the estate was the writer's uncle, and young Vladimir often spent his summer vacations here. The manor is open from Wednesday to Sunday.

Усадьба Заполье

On the other hand, the estate "Zapolje" is not in as good a condition as "Rozhdestvenno". This place will appeal more to fans of ruins, abandoned buildings and beautiful landscapes.

Кафе «Вкус и Цвет»

The glorious and ancient city of Pskov welcomes you! Walks and excursions are ahead, and now it's time to refresh yourselves. The cafe "Taste and colour" is located in the historical part of Pskov. If you approach it from the side of Oktyabrsky Avenue, you will see the Church of Anastasia Rimlyanka and the Church of St. Basil on the Hill.

Псковский Кром (Кремль) / Pskov Krom (Kremlin)

The Pskov Krom, or, as it is more usual to say, the Kremlin, is a real concentration of historical sights. You can limit yourself to a walk around the territory and a tour of the ancient churches and boyar chambers. Or you may explore archeological excavations of the ancient settlement, visit the only administrative building, remained from the Middle Ages, Prikaznye Palaty, climb the observation deck of Vlasyevskaya Tower, and also learn to fire an arrow or even throw an axe! *You can visit the Kremlin any day of the week. Prikaznye Chambers are open from Tuesday to Sunday. The observation deck of the Vlasyev Tower is open from Wednesday to Sunday, tickets are sold until 5:30 pm.

Плоская башня

Another well-preserved tower of the Pskov Kremlin is Ploskaya. You must have seen it on postcards and illustrations with views of Pskov. This construction has become a kind of a visiting card of the city.

Моя История

End the day with a dinner at My Story restaurant. Laconic design, fusion cuisine, panoramic windows overlooking the historic part of the city - what else do you need for a great evening?

Day 2: Antique frescoes, a Mason's house and much more!

Today you will continue exploring Pskov. Stroll through the landscape park, examine ancient frescoes by Greek masters and take a tour of the historical museum.

Arboretum Mirozhsky Park

The morning will start with a walk in the Mirožsky dendrological park. Walk along the winding paths, enjoy the fresh air and feed the ducks in the pond.

Спасо-Преображенский собор

Then go and explore the Transfiguration Cathedral of Mirozhsky monastery. On its walls, you can see ancient frescos, performed by Greek masters. The exterior of the cathedral is preserved in the form similar to the original, only a little bit changed form and appeared the onion dome.

Art Museum-Reserve

The main building of the Museum-Reserve is open every day. Visiting it, you can learn more about the history of the Pskov region from antiquity to the period of the Great Patriotic War.

Dom Masona

If when you say "Freemason House" you have already imagined a sinister structure with encrypted symbols in bas-reliefs and the "all-seeing eye" over the entrance, it's only your illusions. Mason was nicknamed "Mason" by a member of the Archaeological Society, Ludwig Mason, who owned the house. Nowadays the Pskov museum repository is situated in the ancient building. The interior of the repository is being reconstructed and the date of its opening is still unknown. But maybe by your visit its doors will be open and you will be able not only to examine the building from the outside, but also to see the collections of jewelry and porcelain.

Gorodskoy Park Kul'tury I Otdykha Im. A. S. Pushkina

The fortress wall, old tall trees, A.S. Pushkin with the nurse and the children's playground with carousels - this is the atmosphere of the city park of culture and leisure.

Petrovskaya Bashnya

The Peter's Tower is part of the eastern fortification, which protected the city from Polish attacks. It was not always this small: today, only a half-height fragment of its original size is hidden under the roof.

Mojo Gastrobar

It's time for lunch! Don't be modest and order the heartiest dishes, there's a long drive ahead. The Mojo gastrobar is easy to spot by its bright blue door, which, by the way, makes for very atmospheric Instagram photos.

Храм Св. Николая Римско-католической церкви

Make a short stop halfway through to see the Catholic Church of St Nicholas. The building was built in the Neo-Gothic style, which can be easily guessed from the pointed shape of the windows and turrets.

Ресторан БИП

After a short but so fulfilling adventure, treat yourself to a sumptuous dinner in a restaurant that's set in a real castle.
