Discovering Beautiful Bellaggio

Drive to Nesso along the lake with beautiful views on your left. Nesso is a small village between Como and Bellagio so it is a good place to have a break. This little village is built on the mountainside where two rivers meet and make a waterfall. It is a very nice spot that you can observe from the little bridge.

In Bellagio, you can park your car here or at your hotel before exploring the nice little village on foot.

Have lunch at this good restaurant which is also a hotel. It offers great views on the lake and good food with fresh products. You can book a table on their website.

The villa Melzi and its gardens is one of the most impressive sites on the lake. The villa was built in a neoclassical style in 1808 for one of Napoleon's associates. You cannot visit the villa, but the huge gardens are good for a pleasant walk with lake views. There is also a chapel and a small museum that you can check out.

Then you can visit the historical center of the village of Bellagio which goes on a hill. The basilica of Saint Giacomo is an interesting site as the main church of Bellagio.

In Italy, you should definitely try the ice cream, it is an excellent specialty. Buy one cone to take away and go have a walk on the lakeside while eating your ice cream.

You can walk until this spot which is the end of the middle part of the lake. So here you will get great views on each side of the lake: the eastern shore, especially Tremezzo with the villa Carlotta and Menaggio that you visited yesterday and and the western shore with Varenna that you will visit tomorrow.

Go to this wine bar before or after dinner. This is a very charming place and you can taste any wine from any region of Italy. They also have cold cuts and cheese boards to go with it.

After dinner and before going to your hotel, you should enjoy walking around the nice village of Bellagio when it is quiet. In the day, it is crowded with tourists and at night, when all the boats and busloads are gone, the village gets another atmosphere.
