The main structure on the territory of the monastery is the five-domed Assumption Cathedral. It was founded in 1507 by order of Tsar Vasily III. The prototype of the Tikhvin church was the main temple of the state - the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. Researchers call the Assumption Cathedral of the Tikhvin Monastery one of the most significant monuments of Russian architecture of the beginning of the XVI century.
On the basis of the monastery there is the Tikhvin Historical, Memorial and Architectural Art Museum. The main exposition of the museum is dedicated to one of the most significant Orthodox shrines - the Tikhvin wonderworking icon of the Mother of God.
