Jebel Shams

Wadi Ghul is a valley with an abandoned village offering beautiful views of the surroundings. You can drive a little bit in the valley and some difficult hikes going up the Canyon start from here.

So you will actually drive around the Grand Canyon of Oman with incredible views on the way. You can stop easily at different viewpoints.

The Balcony hike is the easiest hike in the area with the best views. It will take you between 2 to 4 hours depending on your level of fitness and the heat. It is better to do it in the afternoon as the light on the Grand Canyon makes it more beautiful and less hot for you to walk as well. The walk goes along the canyon at the top offering amazing landscapes the whole way. You will walk on a pretty easy way along the cliff but large enough to not be dangerous, and you will go until a cave with some water and shade. There are also some friendly goats roaming around.
Think about bringing plenty of water and your lunch and snacks with you or eat well before as there is not much restaurant or even supermarkets in the area, so it is better to plan ahead. And don't forget hat and sunscreen as the sun is always pretty strong, but it can be a bit cold especially at the end of the day since it is in the mountains.

After the nice hike, drive to this viewpoint which is the best place to watch sunset in the Jebel Shams. You can bring your own dinner and even camp here if you have your own gear. Otherwise there is a nice lodging close by.
