From Val Badia to Val Pusteria, the land of Lake Braies

Today we wake up in a mountain village, perfect for a breakfast with a view before hitting the road to another mountain pass, the Falzarego.
Photo stops to admire the view, descending into the small villages of Val Badia, such as San Cassino and La Villa. Then on to Brunico, with its castle overlooking the town.
After a stroll through the streets of the center, it's back in the car towards... Lake Braies! You surely know the fame of this jewel in the middle of the mountains.
End the day in San Candido, between biking and shopping for typical products such as speck, a cured meat that is very famous in the area.

    Cable Car Lagazuoi

Good morning!!! Is there perhaps a better wake-up call than having breakfast at the chalet in the center of town and then heading up to the cool Falzarego Pass to see peaks like Croda da Lago and Col di Lana? Enjoy the view, then it's down to the valley!

    Lake Valparola

Passing by it, it would be a shame not to stop for a photograph. Valparola Lake is a small body of water located at the top of the Valparola Pass. Short walk for muscle awakening before continuing to San Cassiano in Val Badia.

    Bruneck Castle

Pass through this cute little town, where you can choose to stop in the center for a short walk or drive around passing under the castle. There is no time to visit it, but it is fascinating even from the outside. Fun fact: Bruneck Castle was built by the Bishop of Brixen Bruno von Kirchberg in the 13th century in order to protect his holdings in the Puster Valley, thereby also laying the foundation stone for the founding of the town of Bruneck. Pretty ancient, isn't it?

    Lake Braies

Here we are in the famous (also thanks to Instagram) Lake Braies, the heart of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park. Nestled in a rocky basin and surrounded by the Croda del Becco overlooking its waters, Lake Braies is considered the most beautiful lake in the Dolomites. To see it all, it is enough to walk for an hour and a half on the easy path that surrounds it.
Please note: From 10/07 - 10/09/2022 from 09:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Braies Valley can only be reached by public transport or on foot. Going up by private means is only allowed with a parking reservation.
If you want to park directly at the lake, inquire and reserve parking on this site.
