Wetland Marshes, Rocky Beaches and Fossil Hunting

The Steart Marshes is an area of protected wetland that was built to preserve the local wildlife. It's a fascinating place to watch the wetland birds, insects and other animals in a gorgeous coastal setting.

On the tip of this peninsula you'll find a couple of great spots to catch a glimpse of the local birds and wildlife. This is part of one of the largest wetland reserves in the country, so it's an unmissable chance to see all sorts of birds and creatures you would normally never get to see up close.

Before we head over to the Quantock Hills and our most south-westerly spot of the trip, it's time to grab some food.
The Bistro is a café/restaurant that's a hidden gem in the heart of Somerset. Grab a bit to eat from their locally-sourced ingredients and enjoy sweeping views of the local countryside at the same time. Win win.

Ready for a walk? Park up at the nearby East Quantoxhead Car Park (you'll drive past it on the way here) before descending to this rocky coastal path.
Once you descend to East Quantoxhead Beach, to your right it's a 20-30 minute walk to the rocky Kilve Beach. The route to the left is lined with amazing fossils and rock formations, and loops back to where you've parked your car. Bring some suitable footwear, as it can get quite rocky underfoot!

Time for a rest? We think so! It's time to make your way east, towards the cathedral city of Wells, but let's stop for a bite to eat on the way. Bocabar is open from early morning to late evening, serving everything from breakfast and coffee to cocktails and pitchers. They've also got a wide-ranging food menu featuring pub classics alongside more continental options.
