What Happened After Operation Market Garden Failed?
Good morning! Have you had a good night's sleep? Great! Time to start with day to. But before we do, did you sprinkle ‘Hagelslag’ on your bread this morning? Its a typical Dutch way to eat breakfast. Get a slice of bread, spread it with butter and sprinkle the hagelslag (little pieces of chocolate) on it. It’s delicious, trust me. Ok back to the tour.
Today you are going to discover what happened after the failure of Operation Market Garden. Today is a day of contrasts. The route will take you to different spots where you are reminded of the battles that were fought by the Dutch against the Germans. But even though the history is gruesome, the surroundings you are going to discover are beautiful and sometimes even mesmerizing.

Park Lingezegen
Park
Open Details
The first stop is Park Lingezegen. It's a big green zone between the cities of Arnhem en Nijmegen and a place that is considered the frontline of the battles in this region. The park is relatively new. During its construction, lots of bullets and grenades were found in the ground, as well as helmets and other items that belong to soldiers. There were also several field graves discovered. Driver to the Kampsestraat to see ‘the wing’. A war monument thas has been made as a reminder of all the flight traffic during the war.
If you want to see more, you can park your car at Landerij De Park and take a 7km hike that’s called ‘Watch out, here comes the bomb’ (Pas op, bommetje!) route alongside which you can find several points with extra information on what war ‘souvenirs’ have been found in the ground.

Get a napkin and clean your face, you don’t want to get your steering wheel all strawberryish. It's time to go to Arnhem!
You can go straight to the centre and park your car in one of the parkings there. Arnhem is a beautiful city to wander with lots of history. If you look up, you will probably see the next stop. The Eusebius!
