The unbelievable beauties of Cuenca

The morning of any day should be invigorating and positive, and for this it is important to choose an appropriate restaurant. Cafetería Pastelería Ruiz is perfect for this purpose. Mostly light meals and snacks are served here, also fresh pastries and desserts are very popular.

Perhaps the most popular place for strolling and relaxing in the city is the central Plaza España. It is decorated in the center by a small picturesque fountain, and the sides are framed by a variety of historical architecture, as well as numerous souvenir stores and stalls.

The most important of Cuenca's many historical sites is the Mangana Tower. This city was once guarded by a massive fortress wall, of which almost no trace remains today, but the tower that served as a lookout point has been preserved. Today, there is an observation deck with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.

The Catedral de Santa María is the city's main temple and the first Gothic structure built in Castile. Its history dates back to the twelfth century and over the centuries it has been rebuilt several times, inside and out. After a small collapse at the beginning of the twentieth century, part of its façade was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style.

Hanging houses are commonly referred to as a group of structures in Cuenca built on the very edge of a precipice. They were once very common, but today there are very few left. Some of them are now home to the Museum of Abstract Art. According to some estimates, this kind of architecture began to appear in the middle of the fifteenth century.

You can go to one of the restaurants near the houses for lunch. EL Secreto de la Catedral is a great place for this. The atmosphere here is very cozy and relaxed, and the menu offers traditional European and Mediterranean dishes. In particular, various salads and fish dishes are very popular.

Ciudad Encantada (Enchanted City) is a unique nature reserve and a park which date back to the Cretaceous period. It takes at least an hour and a half to walk around the reserve, but if you want you can spend a whole day there.

Ventano del Diablo (Devil's Window) - an observation deck in the caves, which offers a magnificent view to a curve of Jucar River.

After a long walk in nature, it is worth returning to the city for dinner. The Spanish restaurant La Ponderosa is the most preferred candidate for tonight's dinner. It has a very pleasant interior and a relaxed atmosphere. Many visitors note the excellent meat dishes here.

The stage of our trip to see the city of Cuenca is coming to a close. We had time today to see most of the famous sights of this area, and tomorrow we plan to head further east to the city of Teruel.
