The famous Vyborg pretzel was first baked centuries ago.
In the second half of the XIV century in Vyborg was founded Franciscan monastery, whose monks were engaged in baking pretzels. The recipe included various spices: caraway, cinnamon, nutmeg, sesame, marjoram, cardamom, clove, poppy. They were served to a hot red wine drink with the addition of spices - glögu. The castle was founded in 1293 during the Third Swedish Crusade.
The naval militia landed on the coast of the Gulf of Finland in the area of today's Vyborg and ravaged a Karelian settlement and a Karelian guardhouse on a small island. The Swedes laid a castle on the island and named it Vyborg, which means "Holy Fortress" in Old Swedish.
The entrance to the Castle Island is open daily from 9:00 to 19:00.

The colorful, boulder-built two-story house was built on the hillside in the 16th century. For many centuries, the house was owned by rich merchants or artisans. The basement had a workshop and a warehouse, the ground floor had a meeting room and a small kitchen, and the second floor had bedrooms.
