    Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo

    The new Basilica of Sant'Appollinare is very impressive and the mosaics will mesmerize you. On one side, you can see 26 martyrs heading towards Christ and his apostoles and on the the other side, 26 virgins processing towards the Madonna. The basilica dates back from 560 and it is a Unesco World Heritage.

    Ravenna Art Museum

    The museum of art of the city of Ravenna is very interesting and showcases mosaics from the 1950s and a permanent art exhibit with some temporary art exhibits. It is housed in a converted monastery from the 15th century. Right next to the museum, there is a park where it is nice to walk around.

    Dante's Tomb

    Dante is the most famous poet and writer of the Italian language. He was born in Florence but lived in Ravenna several years at the end of his life. That is where he wrote parts of the Divine Comedy, one of his most famous work. He died in Ravenna in 1321. Here you can see his resting place.

    Basilica di Sant'Apollinare in Classe

    This basilica is located 5 kilometers South of the city of Ravenna. It was built in the former Roman port of Classe on the site where the Saint Apollinare was buried. He is the Saint Patron of Ravenna since he converted the city to Christianism in the 2nd century. Around the basilica it is green and there are statues of cows.
    You should definitely visit inside the basilica as it is the most perfect one architecturally. You can admire beautiful and well preserved mosaics depicting Sant'Apollinare surrounded by sheep and an arch with the four evangelists. There are also other biblical figures and the Emperor Constantine IV. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
