The basilica served as a backdrop for the final scene of the wedding of Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The wedding itself was filmed in another church in Salzburg. Therefore, the church has become a popular destination for musical fans from all over the world. It is a former monastery church adjacent to the former monastery buildings of Stift Mondsee.

Take a short walk along the lake promenade at Mondsee and enjoy the alpine panorama and the lake. Benches by the lake invite you to relax. Here you can unwind with a beautiful view.

It is only a few steps from the lake promenade to the parking lot. Pick up your car and drive back to Salzburg.

If Restaurant Brunnauer is closed, you can have lunch at Restaurant Blaue Gans in the old town of Salzburg. This is the oldest restaurant in Salzburg. It has existed since the year 1350.
Opening hours: Monday-Saturday from 12 to 00 pm; continuous hot food until 10 pm. Closed: Sundays and public holidays, except during festival times.

At this parking lot you can leave your car for the visit of Nonnberg Abbey.

The Benedictine Abbey of Nonnberg is a station from the real life of the von Trapp family. Maria Kutschera, Baron von Trapp's second wife, worked here as a teacher. She was on the verge of becoming a nun herself when Baron von Trapp hired her to take care of his seven children from his first marriage. This step changed Maria Kutschera's life. Georg von Trapp married her some time later. They had three more children.
The monastery itself cannot be visited. However, the monastery church, where frescoes from the Middle Ages can be seen, is worth a visit. The way up to the Nonnberg is also worthwhile because of the beautiful views of the city and the surrounding mountains.
Opening hours: The church is usually open all day (exceptions apply). Depending on the season, it closes around 4 and 6 pm. There are no guided tours.

You will spend the night today at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron. This castle served as one of the filming locations of the musical. Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and their children lived here as the Trapp family in The Sound of Music.
Check into the hotel and take a walk through the beautiful park along the Leopoldskron pond.
The family's home was more modest in reality. It was a stately villa in the Salzburg suburb of Aigen, which also had its own park. This villa is not open to the public today.
