Vianden - Our Nature Park - Clervaux - Öewersauer Nature Park - Esch-sur-Sûre
It's time to go back to Luxembourg but there are still some places you can't miss in the Grand Duchy. Before leaving Vianden, you will visit its castle, one of the best preserved medieval strongholds in Europe. Later, a bit of fresh air and hiking in the Our Natural Park and to regain your strength, you will enjoy a delicious meal in a restaurant listed as a monument before visiting the castle of Clervaux.
On the way back, you will enjoy nature in Öewersauer on the banks of the river Sûre and a last touch of history in the ruins of the last castle of Esch-sur-Sûre. A tremendously complete trip.

Vianden Castle
Vianden Castle is one of the tourist icons of Luxembourg. Built between the 11th and 14th centuries on the foundations of a Roman castle and a Carolingian refuge, this fortress is one of the largest and most beautiful Romanesque and Gothic feudal residences in Europe.
Until the early 15th century, it was home to the powerful Counts of Vianden who maintained excellent relations with the imperial court. The most spectacular parts of the fortress are the chapel and the two manor houses (12th-13th century).
As has happened with countless historic buildings in half the world, the abandonment centuries later led to a state of absolute ruin. As I already told you in the case of the Larochette castle, when the domain passed into the hands of the state of Luxembourg, the Vianden castle began to be restored since 1977 respecting its original historical design.
Book your tickets directly on the official website of the castle. As it is an important tourist monument, do not leave it to the last minute.
Opening hours Open every day January, February, November and December from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm March and October from 10:00 to 17:00 hours April to September from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Phone +352 83 41 08-1 Email: [email protected] Official website

Naturpark Our
Do you like hiking, biking, nature and culture? You have come to the place you were looking for. The Our Nature Park is located in the northeast of Luxembourg, the Ösling, one of the southern foothills of the Ardennes, a region of vast forests and hills stretching across Belgium, Luxembourg and part of France. The term Ardennes - Ardennes in French - probably comes from the Celtic word "Ar Duen", meaning "The Black", in clear reference to the black forests or black mountains that abound here.
Our, with a surface area of 420 km², also borders the border triangle of Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg and brings together seven municipalities: Clervaux, Kiischpelt, Park Hosingen, Putscheid, Tandel, Troisvierges and Vianden. All of them have joined together with the aim of boosting the economic development of this region as well as giving priority to nature conservation by preserving valuable habitats for endangered plant and animal species.
This natural park contains a varied collage of breathtaking landscapes ranging from vast plateaus to narrow rocky valleys carved by rivers such as the Our and Woltz/Clerve.
Take the opportunity to stroll through this space where the mastery of nature is a true work of art. You have several hiking trails of different lengths perfectly signposted.

Clervaux Castle
The castle of Clervaux dates from the 12th century and stands on a rocky promontory known as Lay. Like other fortresses in Luxembourg, it was built in successive stages and is surrounded by the houses of the village in the shape of a horseshoe.
The oldest part, the west wing with the manor house, was an initiative of Count Gerhard de Sponheim, brother of the Count of Vianden. Due to the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, the castle was completely destroyed and, thanks again to the Luxembourg government, it was restored.
Today it houses several institutions and museums such as the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge, the Museum of Models of the Castles and Palaces of Luxembourg in the west wing of the castle and in the east wing the famous photographic exhibition "The Family of Man" by Edward Steichen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Opening hours Opening hours may vary depending on the season, so please consult the official website.

Naturpark Öewersauer
The Sûre Supérieur Natural Park is not only a declared area for the special protection of wild birds, the environment and the ecosystem, it also contributes to the promotion of low-impact tourism as a means of job creation as well as to the preservation of the architectural heritage of the area in which there are a large number of chapels, castle ruins, disused mills or old quarries.
Neither in an hour nor in a month you could know in depth this immense natural reserve but this appetizer will be great for you. I suggest a walk along one of the trails that run along the banks of the river Sûre.
The Öewersauer Nature Park's activities won the EDEN Award (European Destination of Excellence) in 2010 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019.

Esch-sur-Sûre Castle
The origins of the castle date back to 774, a fact confirmed by the first written documents attesting to the existence of Esch-sur-Sûre. Its foundations were laid in 927, when Maingaud and his wife Hiletrude of the abbey of Stavelot acquired Esch-sur-Sûre to build a fortified castle here.
Today only the fortified ruins of the former manor of Esch-sur-Sûre are visible and, like many castles, it has survived in better condition as it is owned by the government.
