Lake Ebeity, fortress ruins and a convent

The salt lake of Ebeity is called the "Siberian Dead Sea": the body of water is famous for the therapeutic properties of water and mud at its bottom. Getting to the lake is difficult, but possible: prepare comfortable shoes and long pants so that you don't hurt your feet on the thorns. After the walk, you'll visit the remains of an ancient fortress, another picturesque lake and a convent.

    Eco-trail on Lake Ebeity

Not far from the village of Gvozdevka the eco-trail to Ebeity lake is continued. The views on the south-eastern shore of the lake are the most picturesque because of the large amount of salt. You can drive up to the beginning of the eco-trail, but if it rained the day before, you risk getting stuck in a salt marsh.
There are information boards with descriptions of flora and fauna, legends and the mineral composition of the lake along the eco-trail.
Start your walk at the eco-trail and work your way towards the water. To reach the lake you will have to walk several kilometres through the steppe, salt marshes and thickets of saltwort, which is included in the Red Book. The lake is not deep but you can swim in it. Bring a container of healing clay for home use.

    Pokrovskaya Fortress

In the afternoon drive to the Maryanovsky district. You won't miss the turn to Piketnoye, then go in the direction of Pomurino to the Pokrovskoe lake. Here you will see the ruins of the XVIII century fortress. This small octagonal fortress was a part of the Siberian line - the fortifications designed to protect the Siberians from nomadic raids.
Once there were barracks, stables, warehouses and barns in the territory of the fortress. But for two centuries now, the fortress has been dormant - not much is left of it: everything is overgrown with steppe grass. However, this place will be a landmark for history lovers. For everyone else it is a great place for walking and recreation.

    Pokrovskoe Lake

After exploring the ramparts and moats, take a walk to Pokrovskoe Lake. The water in the lake is clean and pleasant, although because of the reeds the approach is not convenient everywhere.

    St. Seraphim Women's Monastery

Finally, you can visit the Seraphim female monastery known as Varvara's hermitage. It was founded by Abbess Varvara (Gerasimova) who left the world more than thirty-five years ago for the Maryanovsk forests.
There are 11 fully wooden chapels and a temple in the complex. If you come here for a meal, you will definitely not go hungry. If you didn't manage to have a meal in the monastery, you can choose one of the roadside cafes on your way or hurry to the city and have a snack at home.
