    • Visit the cellars of Diocletian’s Roman palace to look for dragons.
    • Chill out on Brac Island’s famous Golden Horn beach.
    • Look across the sea to Italy from a dizzying glass platform.
    • Drink aged wine from an under the sea wine cellar.
    • Walk the ‘miniature Wall of China’.
This 3-day road trip will excite lovers of the Guinness Book of Records as you’ll drive along Croatia’s highest road to check out the incredible glass Skywalk at Biocovo Nature Park and walk along the longest wall in Europe at Ston – both of which have breath-taking views.
It’s also a great trip for fans of Game of Thrones as you’ll visit the cellars of the Diocletian’s Palace in Split where Daenerys kept her dragons as well as the Red Keep Palace Gardens at King’s Landing (Trsteno Arboretum).
This road trip also celebrates the unusual and quirky; you’ll visit Froggyland in Split, where stuffed toads act out scenes from 19th Century life (a must see!) as well as drink wine from barnacle-encrusted bottles, aged in a shipwrecked boat.
There’s also plenty of opportunities to try some of the region’s speciality dishes including river eels and frogs’ legs, fresh oysters and mussels, and the tastiest olives in the region.
And, if that’s not enough, there’s sightseeing from the decks of the ferries to Brac island, and a picture postcard beach to chill out on.
Note the ferry tickets to Brac island (Day 2) should be purchased in advance, especially during high season, as should tickets for the Skywalk. Both can be done online, and links to the relevant webpages are included in the trip details below.

Frogs (Stewed and Stuffed) and Dragons

Today is a day of grand palaces and gardens, with some Game of Thrones and taxidermy thrown in. The journey starts with a visit to a Renaissance arboretum, and a lovely waterfall, followed by a traditional Croatian lunch. In the afternoon you’ll visit Split’s most famous attraction—Diocletian’s Palace – and its most quirky – Froggyland, before dinner and overnighting in this beautiful city.

    Exploring Brac Island

Today is all about Brac, my favourite island in Dalmatia. It’s not as elite as Hvar or as party-loving as Pag, but it has everything; gorgeous beaches, scenic drives and cute tavernas – and the views from the top deck of the ferries are remarkable. You’ll take the morning ferry to Supetar from where you’ll visit a restored family-run olive oil mill, to do some tastings. From here, it’s a short drive down to Golden Horn beach (stopping to check out some views along the way) where you can get a tasty seafood lunch in a beachside tavern before a swim and some chill out time on Brac’s famous beach. Returning to the mainland from Sumartin, you’ll have dinner and overnight in the beautiful old town of Makarska.

    Crazy Roads and ‘Crusty’ Wines

There are some great views (and great seafood) on today’s journey. The trip starts with an exhilarating drive up to the Biokovo Skywalk for a jaw-dropping panorama from the glass platform followed by a coastal drive along the Makarska Riviera which is also stunning, and less hair-raising. The rest of the day will be spent exploring the Peljesac Peninsula, famous for its vineyard and shellfish farms, where you’ll taste wine aged in an underwater cellar, and fish, mussels and oysters caught fresh from the sea. You’ll also walk along the longest wall in Europe before returning to Dubrovnik in the evening.
