Sightseeing Como and Brunate

The cathedral of Como is called the "Duomo", it is located on the main square of Como also called Duomo. The cathedral is made of huge blocks of marble, it is one of the most important buildings around the lake. It was built between 1396 and 1770. Visit inside to admire the impressive nave and the tapestries.

This is another very important basilica in Como. It stands for the Roman martyr San Fedele whose relics are entombed in the altar in 1120. Inside you can see frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Take a walk by the lake to admire the beautiful views of the lake with the town of Como in the background. To get to this monument, you have to walk on a pathway directly on the lake. Beautiful views of Como from there and very nice place to relax and enjoy the view.

This temple is quite big and impressive with its neoclassical facade. It is a beautiful landmark right by the lake. Inside, there is a small museum about Alessandro Volta, born in Como, who was the inventor of the electrical battery.

You can walk until this War Memorial. The walk along the lake goes until several villas like villa Olmo that you will visit tomorrow. After you can go back still walking along the lakeside.

The Como-Brunate cable car allows you to go from Como to Brunate in only 7 minutes with no effort giving you amazing views on the way. It is better to go with the funicular round-trip, it goes up and down every 20 or 30 minutes.

Brunate is a small village located 720 meters above the lake. So from here, you will get impressive views of the lake and of the town of Como.

Then you can go on a hike to the village of Saint Maurizio located 907 meters above Como. And you can climb 143 steps to go to the top of the lighthouse. Incredible views of the lake, of course. It is a nice place to enjoy the sunset as well.
