Dean Castle & Country Park Visitor Centre and Cafe

Explore the country park and head for Dean Castle, which is over 400 years old and was the seat of the Boyd Family, strong supporters of Bonnie Prince Charlie.
But the castle took on a different guise during the filming of the Outlander series, transforming into Beaufort Castle, which was the home of Jamie's grandfather, Lord Lovat of Fraser.

    Dunure Castle

There has been a castle on this site since 1256, but the buildings currently in place were probably built 200 years later. The castle was of such importance that Mary Queen of Scots even stayed here during her tour of the country in 1563.
The castle became the lookout point for Claire and Jamie in season 3 as they watch Ian swim out to Silkie's Island, and once on the island, shots were actually taken at the castle.

    Drumlanrig Castle & Gardens

It is easy to see why the stunning Drumlanrig Castle is affectionately known as the 'Pink Palace' and the residence of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry has been wowing visitors since 1689.
If you are lucky enough to visit when the castle is open for one of its infrequent tours, take the chance to check out the interiors. Worry not if there are no tours, since the gorgeous gardens are accessible for much of the year.
Keen eyed Outlander fans will recognise the castle as being the exterior of the Duke of Sandringham's fictional Belhurst Manor, with the grounds at the front of the building being used as an encampment by the British Army. It was at Belhurst Manor that Murtagh beheads the devious Duke of Sandringham in the season 2 episode "Vengeance is Mine".
    Garden Open Hours: 1 April - 30 September Monday - Sunday: 11:00 - 16:00
