Get Away From the City and Take a Dive in History

The ruins of this great walled Arab city are declared Unesco Heritage. The museum you can visit is partly built underground, to don’t damage the ruins. Nice side-effect: it’s a real cool place to visit during hot summer months. It’s a good idea to watch the movie in the museum first, before you walk around. Another piece of Arab cultur is to be found here. Castillo Almodovar del Rio used to be a Roman fort but the structure you are looking at now is Morisch ans stems from the year 760. Wow, that is a long time ago isn’t it! And guess what, part of the series Game of Thrones was filmed here.

Time to go exploring. The best place to start is at the visitors centre. Here you get to know more about the area. You can park your car on the big parking lot and go for a nice walk into nature. There are several routes to take, short ones and long ones, all easy to navigate. Beware the visitors centre is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Having lunch while enjoying a wonderful view. What else does a person need? This is the place to taste some quality food for fair prices. You can sit outside but can enjoy the view from the inside as well because the windows are nice and big. The staff is very friendly as well.

A quick stop here to stretch your legs and have a last look at the lake.

You can park your car somewhere down the road here. On the crossroad you will see signs that guide you to the Ermita. Follow these signs for a walk to the convent. The further you park your car, the shorter the walk. If you park your car near the crossroad it is a 40-minute walk to the convent. Be sure other vehicles can still pass when you park.

The walk to Ermita Virgen de Belen is nice and quiet, you will find yourself in the middle of nature. There are benches to rest when you get tired. If you are lucky the convent is open and you can take a look inside. But if it is closed, it isn't the worst thing because on the outside there is also a lot to see. What a beautiful building, isn't it? When you took your pictures and had a little rest, it is time to go back to your car.

Pick up your car. You must be hungry after all that walking. Time for dinner!

If you like tapas, this is the place to have you dinner. Take your time and enjoy different kinds of tapas. The shrimps are very nice and there are many kinds of croquettes to choose from. If you don’t know what to choose, just ask the waiter to bring you a variated series of tapas. That way you can try food that you have never tried before.
