Coasting From Island to Island

Your first stop for today is Pargas, the gateway town to the archipelago. Café AXO, in the historical old town, is a great place to stop for your morning coffee and perhaps a pastry. The cosy café always has relaxing music playing and live jazz performances every week.

From Pargas, take the car ferry to the next district called Nagu. The ferry is free to use, and you don't need to book a ticket in advance. It runs every 15 minutes during the day and less frequently late at night and in the early morning.

Once you reach Nagu, you can drive off the ferry and hit the road again.

Park at the southern harbour of Nagu where the K-Market shop is located. A hiking route called the Westernholm Path starts here.

Departing from the K-Market car park is a short three-kilometre hike around the island of Ernholm. Take in forest and sea landscapes while learning about the history of the island from information boards along the trail. This path is dedicated to the 19th century painter Victor Westerholm, who spent much of his childhood here and reflected this landscape in his artworks.

Båthuset Nagu is located at the main marina in town and is decorated in a fitting chic, coastal style. It is a laid-back bistro that boasts an extensive range of scrumptious breakfast options, baked goods, and delectable dishes, typical for the region.

The ferry that takes you to the next island is located at the same marina as the restaurant.

Take the Östern car ferry from Nagu harbour to Hanka. This ferry features a restaurant and a sun deck, so you can comfortably enjoy the boat ride.
The ferry goes from Nagu to Hanka several times a day. The schedule may be different each month, so check it on the official website. Normally, there is a cruise at 3:25 p.m., but it is important to arrive in time to prepare your vehicle for transportation.

After cruising on the ferry, you'll reach your destination and can continue driving.

In this part of the Small Archipelago trail, there is a former air control tower in the forest that is now used for birdwatching or simply enjoying the scenery.
It's a short walk from the road, and the steep steps are rewarded with fantastic views of the archipelago.

Here is another ferry crossing that you need to make on the way to Naantali. The cable ferry is free and runs every twenty minutes, which is very convenient.

You formally end the Small Archipelago Trail in the town of Naantali, which is on the mainland. From this car park, there is a walk way called the Path of Love that will take you to the Cliffs of Kuparivuori Hill.

Take one last look out to the archipelago from the rocky cliffs of Kuparivuori Hill, which you can walk along or sit down and watch the undulation of the sea. Depending on the time of year, you may catch a sunset or see groups of friends enjoying the late-night sun.

Merisali is located in a former banquet hall of the 19th century that served tourists who came to Naantali for its famous spa. Today, travellers may come to Naantali for a more diverse range of reasons, but the restaurant still provides them with warm and welcoming hospitality. Their main menu offering is big, cheesy pizzas, though there are also fresh salads, burgers, sausages and more.
