Yasnaya Polyana, Kozlova Zaseka and the open-air museum

The famous estate, where Leo Tolstoy was born and spent most of his life. He especially loved the places that reminded him of his mother: the gazebo, the Lower Park and the greenhouse. Here he wrote many cult works, among them "Anna Karenina" and "War and Peace". The house museum can only be accessed by appointment. Tickets for excursions can be bought on site. Monday's a day off. On the last Tuesday of the month, the House of L.N. Tolstoy is closed. On the last Wednesday of the month the Kuzminsky Wing is closed.

The nearest railway station to "Yasnaya Polyana" has preserved the atmosphere of the late XIX century. Here the Tolstoy family received mail and welcomed guests. In 1918 the station was renamed into "Yasnaya Polyana", and in 2001 the station returned its original name to "Kozlov Zasek". There is a clock at the station, which is always 6.30 - the time when the body of Leo Tolstoy was delivered to the station. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Excursions are held (information about excursions can be found on site). The last Wednesday of the month is a sanitary day.

It is a small village founded in 1389. Many ancient buildings are still preserved here. Krapivna is a charming open-air museum. In the house of merchant Pryanchikov you can see an exhibition dedicated to Russian art. In the house of the merchant Astafiev plans to exhibit foreign art. The observation deck on the Plava River offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. Historically, there was an observation tower on this place. The coat of arms depicts nettles, the symbol and logo of the city.

The museum is located in an ancient merchants' mansion of Saburovs in the center of Krapivna. Here you will learn about the history of the ancient town and how it relates to the life of Leo Tolstoy. After the excursion you can drink herbal tea, learn about the amazing properties of nettle and even make it into a guardian. The museum offers master classes and excursions.
