    Castles and Small Villages

If the first day was designed for hiking, the second will be dedicated to know castles and small villages.
The first stop is in the village Beauford, where you can meet in the same complex, a medieval castle and another Renaissance castle. Then you will drive to the village of Vianden, where one of the most famous castles in Luxembourg is located, where you can climb on a chairlift and have beautiful views of the surroundings.
Finally, you will pass the small village of Esch-sur-Sure where you can visit the ruins of its castle and have beautiful views of the picturesque village with white walls and black ceilings.

    Medieval Castle Beaufort

In Beaufort you have two castles for lack of one! Here you can visit a medieval castle and a renaissance castle in the same complex. While you can do it on your own, I recommend you take a guided tour to understand the history of the castle.
To make a reservation you must write to this email [email protected]
Open Hours You can only visit the two castles between April and October, as the medieval castle is closed for the rest of the year. Monday - Sunday: 9:00 - 18:00 (last admission: 17:30)

    Chairlift - Bottom station

After lunch you can hop back in the car and drive to the castle, but I recommend taking the chairlift ride up and walking down the picturesque Grand Rue. One of those typical streets of the area that is very well kept, with flowers in pots and pastel coloured walls. There are also several cafés and you might be tempted to grab a quick coffee after visiting the castle.
You can see timetables, prices and buy the chairlift ticket on this website.
Don't panic, it's a simple but safe chair and you'll have spectacular views of the valley.

    Vianden Castle

The chairlift takes no more than 10-15 minutes to climb (it is marked as coming by bike, but don't pay attention to it).
The castle was built between the 11th and 14th centuries, but was restructured in the 20th century and you're sure to feel like you're in a storybook when you walk through it.
Before starting the visit you can stop by the information booth where you will be given a map and there is also an exhibition related to the castle.
For more information and to buy tickets you can visit this website.

    Boulangerie-Pâtisserie Au Croissant D'Or

On the way back from the château to the centre to pick up the car, you can walk down the Grand Rue and stop for a coffee and something sweet at one of the bakeries along the street. One of them is this one, where you'll find delicious sweets.
Open Hours Tuesday - Friday: 7:00-12:00, 13:30-18:00 Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 - 12:00 Closed on Mondays. If you are travelling on the weekend, you can look for another café open on the same street.

    Musée Littéraire 'Victor Hugo'

After coffee, you can pick up the car in the parking lot. On the way, and after crossing the bridge, you will see the house where the writer Victor Hugo lived. A museum currently operates, but it is too late to visit. If you want more information about the museum, you can see the official website.
