Excursion to Afanasiy Brewery, Tver chorygory and rye pies

On the way to Tver, it is better to make a stop in Mikulino and have a look at the snow-white Church of Michael the Archangel. The cathedral appeared on this site in 1382, as one of the first monuments to the victory in the Battle of Kulikovo. The present temple was erected in the middle of the XVI century on the site of a pre-existing building.

For a late lunch, go to the Governor's Restaurant. The selection of dishes here is excellent, but the dish that definitely deserves attention is called choryg. It's a white fish baked in flour and milk and sprinkled with green onions. It is not at all surprising that it is the fish dish that has made Tver famous - there are many rivers, lakes and reservoirs in this region. To choryg, ask for rye cake - a thick rye flatbread on buttermilk and sour milk.

Now go for a walk in Tver. Start walking along the Stepana Razina embankment and the Novovolzhsky bridge.

Then move to the other bank of the Volga River, to Afanasiy Nikitin Embankment (named after the Tver merchant who discovered the road to India).

In the City Garden visit the bronze Pushkin. The poet visited Tver as many as 28 times, passing from St. Petersburg to Moscow.
Alexander Sergeyevich visited the Italian Paolo Galliani for lunch and his favourite dish was "pasta with parmesan". Yes, yes, pasta with parmesan by that time was already a well-known dish in Russian society, as well as in Europe. The hotel Galiani, where Pushkin stayed, no longer exists, but the building is still alive: it is now house number 34 on Volodarskogo street.

The restaurant and hotel "Governor" is located on Novotorzhskaya street, which together with Sovetskaya and Volnaya Novgorod streets forms a "Versailles trident". It is a system of buildings borrowed from the French, which was used in Tver after the destructive fire in 1763. On the axis of the "trident" are threaded several squares with elegant buildings.
From here head back in the direction of the Volga River, but this time for dinner at the Moskva Restaurant.

The restaurant "Moskva" has been in operation for almost 20 years. And during this time it has learned how to surprise its guests. Try here a rye pie stuffed with pike perch and pike (Vesegonsk is a town in the Tver Region, on the shore of the Rybinsk Reservoir). Or posikunchiki - small fried meat pies, a traditional treat of the Tver region. The best way to wash down the meal is with a homemade morsel of wild cranberries and lingonberries.

The nightlife in Tver offers many opportunities. Most bars can be found on Sovetskaya Street and Tryokhsvyatskaya Street. Alternatives are cinemas, theatres, bowling clubs, quests. If you have no energy left for entertainment, hurry to the hotel - stretch on the bed in anticipation of tomorrow.
