Castles Churches and Palaces

This beautiful structure dates back to the 10th century and is one of the oldest Romanesque churches in Cologne. It is dedicated to Saint Pantaleon and Saints Cosmas and Damian. The spectacular west work of the church is considered to be one of the outstanding creations of the sacred architect, Ottonian. It is artistically adorned with outstanding artwork, including Romanesque sculpture decorations dating back to the year 1,000. Some of it can only be visited as part of guided tours. This is a real 14th-century medieval fortress designed to shelter its inhabitants and defend against attackers. It's a two-part complex with two buildings constructed on islands and connected by a multi-arched bridge. The castle wall once stood outside the moat where the lawn terrace now is. The castle courtyards and the outdoor facilities can be visited for a fee, but the interiors are not open to visitors. The castle has a specific schedule, so it is better to check the availability in advance.
