Zuggaramurdi Witches Museum and Caves, Basque Cuisine and Art
Let's continue our trip with a morning hike with panoramic vistas of the Basque Coast.
Later, you'll cross over the French border back to Spain as you explore the village of Zugaramurdi. Here you'll learn all about the Spanish Inquisition and their hunt for the "Witches" of this village and later you can visit the ancient caves.
You'll end the day with a stop at a Basque art gallery and a relaxing dinner before heading back to Bilbao.

Croix de Sainte Barbe
Right out the door of your B&B are incredible hiking trails at the base of the Pyrenees.
After your delicious gourmet breakfast, get your body moving with a hike up to the Croix de Sainte Barbe. After a short climb, you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view of the Basque countryside.
The hotelier will be happy to point you in the right direction.
Please make sure you have plenty of petrol before leaving as stations in the Pyrenees can be sparse.

Witch Museum
The tiny pueblo of Zugaramurdi, deep in Basque country on the border of Spain and France, may seem like just another small mountain village. But back in the 17th Century it was Inquisition Central as the Spanish focused their "witch hunt" on this ancient hamlet.
At the Witches Museum, learn all about the folk tales and history of this time where many innocent lives were lost.

Cuevas de Zugarramurdi
Legend has it that ancient woman of the occult used to hold meetings in these caves...in truth, the "witches" were innocent women using the power of medicinal herbs but the Spanish Inquisition cast these healers as evil spirts to be feared (and killed).
You'll find plenty to explore here and there's decent signage explaining the history dating back to the 17th Century.
It's a nice walk about the area and if you're traveling with kids, they are going to love climbing and jumping on all of the rocks!
There's also a nice little museum in the complex if you'd like to learn more about the cave's history.
