    Le Train de La Rhune, Traditional Basque Culture and Villages

    This day will see you high on the mountain top of La Rhune in the French Pyrenees as you ride the Petite Train to the summit. While exploring, you'll discover many types of flora and fauna and possibly even spot wild ponies.
    A traditional Basque museum will leave you curious and intrigued as you learn about the rich history of this region. The children will be delighted with a treasure hunt curated just for them!
    You'll have plenty of opportunities to indulge in traditional Basque food, French pastries and relax in the stunning mountains.

    Le Train de La Rhune

    Le Train de La Rhune, built in 1924, takes only 35 minutes to reach the mountain summit of La Rhune (905 meters). From your strategic viewpoint at the top of the Pyrenees you'll have incredible panoramic vistas of the Basque coast, various flora and fauna and many hiking trails.
    You'll need to buy train tickets in advance from the online Website so you can secure the 11:30 train.
    You'll start queuing at 11:00 to board the train which leaves you plenty of time after parking the car to look around the different vendors and buy some nice picnic supplies. There's nothing like a fresh French baguette sandwich!
    There is also an onsite cafe for drinks, ice cream and other food purchases should you choose to eat at the top rather than pack a picnic.

    Ortillopitz, la maison basque de Sare

    This well laid out and informative Basque museum has plenty of exhibits for adults and children alike.
    A traditional 17th Century Basque house, the experience will leave you feeling as if you've traveled back in time as you learn about the culture and traditions of the Basque.
    If you're traveling with children, do check out the treasure hunt activity just for kids!
