Le Train de La Rhune
Le Train de La Rhune, built in 1924, takes only 35 minutes to reach the mountain summit of La Rhune (905 meters). From your strategic viewpoint at the top of the Pyrenees you'll have incredible panoramic vistas of the Basque coast, various flora and fauna and many hiking trails.
You'll need to buy train tickets in advance from the online Website so you can secure the 11:30 train.
You'll start queuing at 11:00 to board the train which leaves you plenty of time after parking the car to look around the different vendors and buy some nice picnic supplies. There's nothing like a fresh French baguette sandwich!
There is also an onsite cafe for drinks, ice cream and other food purchases should you choose to eat at the top rather than pack a picnic.
Le Train de La Rhune arrives to the summit at 12:05, departs the summit at 13:30 and arrives back to the station at 14:10.
