This structure was first started by the Phoenicians, then the Romans and finally the Moors built the fortress you are now visiting.
The Castillo stands majestically on the highest point of Almunecar where it protected the town below from invaders.
Inside you'll learn about the history of the castle and there's a short film that will delight the children. It's the perfect size for kids to explore as they examine the miniature models of what the city used to look like and thrill at the intact canons and gun ports surrounding them.
