Chulilla and the Hanging Bridges Route

Here the river Turia meanders between high rock walls, forming a canyon of great beauty.
Chulilla is an attractive destination for those in search of nature and easy trekking routes, even for the whole family. The suspension bridges over the river, originally built to allow workers to reach the reservoir under construction, give it a special characteristic.
But this is not the only thing to see here. The enclave of Chulilla on top of one of the rocky walls of the canyon allows you to walk through the entrails of the village and climb up to the remains of the castle. This place has been prized by different civilisations and was at the centre of wars.

    Chulilla Town Hall

With its low, whitewashed houses, the village's location high up in a ravine above the river Turia gives it its special appeal.
The route through the historic centre includes the Plaza de la Baronia, the central point of the village with the Town Hall, the church, bars, and restaurants. The way to the castle is through narrow pedestrian alleys, where you can breathe the fresh mountain air.

    Chulilla Castle

Of Muslim origin, after successive wars and an earthquake the interior has been practically destroyed, but what is still in good condition is the outer wall, one of the access doors and a medieval tower.
The walk-up to the castle is through the streets of the historic centre and is perfectly suitable for children. Due to its location at the top of the steep ravine above the river Turia, the views from here are majestic, both of the roofs of the houses in the village and of the surrounding mountains.

    Hoces del Turia

With a range of dishes that vary according to the time of year, this is one of the best places to eat in Chulilla.
Its seasonal products guarantee quality. They have several menus with a choice of starter, main course and dessert. Among their dishes, the rice with deer, boletus, and garlic mushrooms and duck cannelloni stand out.
Their desserts are a delight. We recommend the pineapple soup with mango ice cream.
    Open Hours: Wednesday to Saturday: 13:00 - 16:00, 20:30 - 23:00. Sunday: 13:00 - 16:00.

Ruta de los Calderones (Puentes Colgantes)

This route is the main reason why people visit Chulilla.
The trekking route of the marshes, known as the Route of the Hanging Bridges, skirts the canyon of the river Turia. It obviously owes its name to the presence of hanging bridges to cross from one side of the river to the other, or to avoid the steep ascents and descents through the canyon.
The rocky wall of the canyon, which in some cases is more than 70 metres high, and the crystal clear water of the river Turia are clearly visible along the route. It is about three and a half kilometres to the Loriguilla reservoir from the start of the trail, a total of seven kilometres round trip.
It is perfectly suitable for children, although care must be taken to ensure that they do not slip on the steps built on the rock.

    Charco Azul

The construction of small dams on the course of the river Turia has given rise to the formation of small natural pools such as the so-called Charco Azul (blue pool).
In the summer and with the high temperatures, the place invites you to take a dip, although the water is usually a little cold. The installation of a wooden platform allows you to appreciate the environment where it is located, with high rock walls.
After the trekking route, it is worth taking a break here and listening to the sound of the water running through the canyon.
After contemplating nature it is time to return to the car park (5 minutes) to go back to the village, have dinner and sleep.
