Montauban and Around

This outdoor place is exactly located where the two rivers that gave the name to the department: Tarn and Garonne meet. Due to this location, the place has incredible fauna and flora and is a protected area and ornithological reserve. You can get information at the visitor center about the birds you can observe. There is a water area of 340 hectares that you can enjoy in many different ways and activities. There are 29 different water activities.

This bar and restaurant is very good for tapas and cocktails. So you can try different tapas and share. It has a nice terrace on the main square of Montauban.

Ingres and Bourdelle were two famous French sculptors born in Montauban. When Ingres died in 1867, he bequeaths all of his works from his study at his native town, this will become the Ingres Museum. In this museum freshly renovated in 2019, you will appreciate some of the best French sculpture art works.

The main square of Montauban is named "Place nationale". It dates back from the 18th century. From here, you can walk easily around the city center to visit the city and admire the architecture. The general color of the city if pink, like Toulouse which is called the pink city. Montauban is called the little sister of Toulouse. In the streets, you will be able to spot some street art, some of them showing Ingres drawings. You can also check out the theatre Olympe de Gouge with its beautiful façade.

"Pont vieux" means old bridge. This beautiful bridge was built in 1335 and is still standing. You can cross it to go on the other side of Tarn to get beautiful views of Montauban across the river and to walk along the river Tarn.
