    The Viewpoints of Montgo and the Castle of Denia

    On the second day, you have to prepare your shoes. The mountain ranges of the Montgo park hide treasures such as the Molinos route and fabulous views of the coast of Alicante from the top of the cliffs.
    The route continues to Denia where the medieval castle on top of the hill is the main attraction.
    To end the day, a short foray into the mountains to visit the charming village of Polop de la Marina, its castle and history.

    Aparcamiento Merendero

    Within the Montgo natural park there are exclusive parking areas. This car park is located in a pine forest and is the closest to the Los Molinos hiking route.

    Els Molins

    Almost five kilometres long, this circular trekking route passes through areas of pine forests, a sanctuary, and then through windmills from the 14th century onwards, now in disuse, which were once used as a source of energy.
    From the area of the mills you can see the town of Javes, the bay, the sierras, and even the Peñon de Ifach in the distance.

    From the previous car park, it is less than a kilometre by car to the next stopping place. It takes only five minutes from the car park to reach the San Antonio lighthouse.

    Far del Cap de Sant Antoni

    Although it is not possible to enter the interior of the lighthouse, its location at one end of the natural park and next to the sea allows you to see a large part of the Costa Blanca. Look carefully at the horizon, you might see the island of Ibiza!
    You can also reach the lighthouse viewpoint by walking along a path that ascends from the Tangó cove in the port of Javea to the lighthouse, which takes about half an hour.

    With fresh ingredients, especially fish and seafood bought from the Denia fish market and vegetables from nearby gardens, the restaurant prepares quality dishes.
    The typical food of Denia and for which it has gained international fame is the red shrimp, which is very tasty here. Also, lobsters and other Mediterranean products are offered on the menu.

    Castell de Dénia

    On a hill overlooking the town centre, only a few parts of the castle remain standing, today occupied by the archaeological museum. From the top of the fortress, the views over the harbour of Denia and the Mediterranean are the highlight of the visit.
    The archaeological museum spans from the beginnings with the Iberians and Romans to the Christian period in the 18th century. There are numerous exhibits including Islamic ceramics and bronzes. It is very interesting.
    Open Hours: Opening time is 10:00, but closing time varies according to the time of year. Check on the official tourism website of Denia.

    Casita de pescadores barrio peatonal

    The seaside neighbourhood of Baix La Mar is one of the most picturesque places in Denia. Located in the lower part of the castle and just a few metres from the port, you have to walk through its narrow streets to experience the atmosphere.
    In the past it was the residence of fishermen and sailors but nowadays bars and restaurants are located in its two main squares, Sant Antoni and de la Creu, surrounded by colourful houses.
    After the visit to the neighbourhood in only five minutes you return to the car park to continue on your way.

    Castell de Polop

    The castle of Polop is located at the highest point of the village, built on Arab ruins. Together with the adjoining cemetery, they form the main attractions of the village. From the top there are views of the sierras.
    Here the poet Gabriel Miro spent long periods of time. The cemetery was the inspiration for the writer's literary work Huertos de Cruces.
    After the visit to the castle in ten minutes you return to the car park to continue on your way.

    If you want to enjoy grilled food, as soon as you leave the village, this restaurant is a must.
    With a terrace and magnificent views of Polop, it has different grilled meats including beef, chicken, pork and even grilled fish such as sea bass and salmon.
    You must try the grilled ribs, the speciality of the place.
