Between vineyards and the Upper Black Forest in Sasbachwalden

Lace up your hiking boots, because today you will hike a panoramic round through Sasbachwalden on the hiking trail "AugenBlick-Runde". The varied tour starts at the spa hotel "Zum Alde Gott", which is only a ten-minute walk from the Hotel Engel.
The approx. 5 km long hike leads you first uphill through the wildly romantic gorge with the Gaishöll waterfalls. Other highlights are the old Straubenhof mill, two schnapps fountains and the panoramic views into the valley from along the way.
Equipment: Sturdy shoes and weatherproof clothing.

In this gorge in the forest, the Brandbach stream ripples and rushes into the valley, overcoming a total of 200 meters in altitude. A hiking trail with wooden walkways and a total of 13 bridges leads up through the shady forest through the wildly romantic valley, past the babbling brook, natural rock pools and huge boulders.

At the upper end of the Gaishöll waterfalls, a cozy stop awaits you at the rustic Spinnerhof. The rustic inn is enthroned above Sasbachwalden in a beautiful hillside location - enjoy the great view from the outdoor area! At the Spinnerhof, you'll not only get hearty regional cuisine, but also a huge, multi-level Black Forest cake and fruit brandies from their own distillery.

If you've ever wondered what the Sasbachwalden "Schnapsbrunnen" is all about: Now you know! Around Sasbachwalden you will always find fountains in which drinks are stored in the cool mountain spring water - including mostly schnapps and liqueurs from our own production. Here you can help yourself for a small fee and continue your hike on the "AugenBlick-Runde" refreshed and invigorated. The beauty of this schnapps fountain is that it is located in the middle of a vineyard, where you can spend the night in wine barrels, and offers a magnificent view.

After a little refreshment at the schnapps fountain, follow the hiking trail "AugenBlick Runde" until you get back to the center of Sasbachwalden, where your hotel is located. Relax a bit on the terrace or stroll through the small center with its pretty half-timbered houses between vineyards.

Stop for dinner in the rustic restaurant, which serves hearty regional Baden dishes, as well as homemade tarte flambée and Swiss cheese dishes. In addition, you can taste wines from Sasbachwalden.

Almost an insider tip is the sunset in the vineyards at the "Münsterblick", a vantage point in the middle of the vineyards at the Schelzberg. From here you can watch the sun go down and have a great view of Sasbachwalden and the Rhine Valley all the way to France. By the way, it's called "Münsterblick" because you can see the Strasbourg Cathedral in the distance from here!
