This square is called the 5th of may. On may 4th the Dutch hold 2 minutes of silence for the fallen and on the 5th they celebrate their freedom. In Wageningen, you will find the best party on this day because it is a very special place for the Dutch. While you walk through town, please enjoy the buildings. It's a very pretty part of the Netherlands.

Monument for the fallen
Open Details
You have arrived at the Monument for the fallen. This is the place where the silent march on May 4th ends every year. It both remembers the fallen soldiers as well as civilian victims of the war. You see there are a lot of monuments everywhere you go. It's a way for the Dutch to never forget that people fought for their freedom. Although it is a long time ago, it's still an important subject in schools. The phrase 'lest we forget' is often used during war remembrance services.

So many signs of a war fought long ago, so many natural sights, a fruit machine, a bunker with sound. There is lots to talk about. There are many restaurants to choose from in the centre of town, but I recommend this one. Food is just a tat bit different than in other restaurants, the atmosphere is nice and the staff is really friendly, yet professional. Great place to eat!
