Get Romantic in the Canals of Venice

Venice is a car-free island and there are only a few places where you can park the car - all expensive. Tronchetto Parking is the most economical one and it is recommended to book in advance in the high season to secure a parking spot. You can read more about how to book parking here.

After a lengthy walk to the picturesque Rialto Bridge, look for a gondola ride from the bridge. Being one of the most iconic (and romantic) things to do in Venice, the experience is highly overpriced, but with a flat rate all over the city. Yet, a 30-minute gondola ride through the idyllic canals is still a must while in Venice and the canals leading from the Rialto Bridge are wonderful for it.

Head to the famous main square of Venice, Piazza San Marco. This is also where you'll find some of the main attractions in the city. If you have the time, take a stroll down to the waterfront for a view of the spectacular Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute on the other side of the canal.

Arguably one of the most beautiful basilicas in Italy, situated on Piazza San Marco, is the Saint Mark's Basilica. Maze at the incredible details both on the outside and inside of the basilica, including colorful mosaics and carefully carved sculptures. Saint Mark's relics are inside the church.
Top tip! The line to enter Saint Mark's Basilica can be long, especially in high season. You might want to look into purchasing skip-the-line-tickets or book a guided tour to save time.

Go to Rossopomodoro for the best freshly made pizza and pasta in Venice. The restaurant has a vibrant and friendly atmosphere and the food simply tastes incredible.

Walk back to the car after lunch. Take your time walking the enchanting narrow streets, crossing the many delightful bridges that cross the canals, and taking pictures.

Make a stop in Ferrara on the way back. The historic center is especially nice to walk around in the evening, not to mention the quaint Piazza Savonarola. In the middle of the square, there is a statue of Savanarola and right around the corner, you find Ferrara Cathedral, which will be closed, but worth a look from the outside, beautifully lit up at night.
You can park at Parking Lot Centro Storico just a few minutes' walk from the square.

Another attraction worth seeing from the outside after closing hours is the prominent Este Castle built in 1385 on the orders of Nicolò d'Este to protect him and his family. It started off serving as a defense and military fortification but later it became d'Este's home and ducal palace.
It is beautifully lit up at night and makes for a good photo location.

Before the last leg of your road trip back to Bologna, stop by this small, but incredibly tasty restaurant for a piadina, AKA Italian-style quesadilla. It is super popular among the locals for a reason and you will not regret trying it.
