Cefalù, a Beautiful Seaside Village

The first stop on the way to Cefalù is a detour to the small village of Caccamo and its castle.
It is a castle of Norman origin, built in the 11th century on a high cliff (the towers seem to emerge from the rock) and surrounded by defensive walls. When you climb to the top you will see spectacular views of the whole valley.

Along Via Termitana (in the direction of the castle) there are several places to park.

After visiting the castle you can spend a few minutes walking through the steep alleys of the village (you can also return for your car and make a visit from the car). On the way you will see, for example, the Chiessa Madre.
Then continue your way to Cefalù, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Welcome to Cefalù! You can leave your car in this car park and visit the new harbour and the beautiful via Vetterani on the way to the historic centre. Or you can leave it in the public car park on the other side of the rock, where most of the attractions are located.

The first suggested destination is to visit one of the most beautiful places in the historic centre: Piazza del Duomo.
The Duomo square has many cafes and shops and, of course, the Duomo or Cathedral of Cefalù. The Duomo has 33 steps and you can choose one to stay for a few minutes to contemplate the daily scenes of the place.
In addition to the cathedral, the square is home to the Town Hall (a former monastery), Palazzo Pirajno and Palazzo Maria.

Before continuing your walk through the village, you can stop for lunch. One of the places to choose is TINCHITE' Taverna & Putia, where you can order fish, meat and, of course, pasta with a sicilian flavour!

After lunch you can walk to Via Vittorio Emanuelle to see more of Cefalù, such as the medieval lavatorio. This is where women washed clothes in those times and it is still almost original.

From there you can head to the old harbour area, where you will see the most traditional postcard of Cefalù: its light pastel-coloured houses, the sea, the cathedral and, behind it, the rock. There you can take pictures, relax on the small beach and watch the daily scenes.

After the walk along the old pier, you can climb the rock. Note that the whole walk ( round trip) can take up to an hour and a half, and the path is uphill.
On the way you will surely pass through Corso Ruggero street which, together with via Vittorio Emanuele, are the main streets where you will find shops of all kinds.
At the beginning of the path you will find the ticket office to pay the entrance fee. Then you will start the climb up. Along the way you will pass three walls, the remains of the temple of Diana and the Castle of Cefalù. On the way back, you can stop at some viewpoints with beautiful views of the village and the sea.

You may be a little tired from walking, but make the effort to walk a few more minutes to the Cannolí café. Find a table on the terrace facing the sea, order a good cappuccino and accompany it with a cannoli, the typical Sicilian sweet. Then relax.

Return to pick up the car and prepare for more than an hour and a half's drive to Enna, where you will spend the night.

Welcome to Enna, a small town in the centre of the island where you can visit its castle and observe the silhouette of the volcano Etna. Look for centrally located accommodation with parking. You are probably going to be late, so leave your things as quickly as possible and go out to find a place to eat.

Find a place near the hotel where you are staying to have a quick dinner and come back to rest. You can opt for pizzas at Pavone.
