Tolo - Epidaurus - Olive Oil Factory - Mycenae - Nafplion - Tolo

The cult of the god Asclepius was formed here in the VI-V century BC and Epidaurus became a place of pilgrimage for many sick people. There were wonderful buildings - the temple of Artemis, the temple of Asclepius, swimming pools with thermal waters and a stadium. A theater was also built here in which performances also helped the healing process. The theater is famous for its unique acoustics and still hosts theatrical performances and concerts.

Only 3 km from the ancient Epidaurus is the MELAS olive oil factory. In MELAS you can walk through the organic olive grove and learn how trees grow, how olives are harvested and how olive oil is made. Taste the local olive oil and olives and buy what you like. It also sells very good olive oil-based bio-cosmetics and other natural ingredients. The visit lasts about an hour and is in Greek, English, French and German. I strongly recommend contacting Mrs Anastasia, who is conducting the tour, by email or phone in advance and agree on the time.

Ancient Mycenae, where the Mycenaean civilization emerged. It was from here, from the palace of King Agamemnon, that the Trojan campaign was launched, and the ancient myths that turned out to be reality, led Heinrich Schliemann to these hills in the late 19th century, who found the gold of Mycenae here. Before climbing up through the Lion's Gate to the ruins of the palace, take a look at the local archaeological museum.

Be sure to stop at the impressive domed tomb, the so-called treasury of Atreus (the entrance ticket to Mycenae and the tomb is shared). The taverns in Mycenae are quite touristy, so either choose something to your liking or wait with lunch until Nafplion.

The charming town of Nafplion, the first capital of independent Greece, is reminiscent of the elegance of Italian cities. Start at the fortress of Palamidi, towering above the city. From here you have a breathtaking panoramic view.

Nafplion is a pedestrian city, so it is better to leave the car in the large parking lot near the port.

Walk around the city and feel its special atmosphere. History-lovers can visit the Archaeological Museum, where findings from all over the Argolida area (Mycenae, Epidaurus, Lerna) are collected. And those who want to know the traditional Greek drink, ouzo, can visit the store of Karonis, one of the oldest Greek producers of ouzo and other drinks. Don't forget to try the local ice cream, still made according to ancient Italian recipes in Nafplion. Here you can also have dinner in one of the taverns in the alleys of the old town.
