    Viewpoints and Boat Trip on the Lagoon

    This one-day route includes some of the most representative sites of the Valencian region: 10th century castles, blue flag beaches, paella, and other typical rice dishes. The day starts in Cullera with a mix of history and beach, passing several viewpoints to observe the Mediterranean and culminating with a magnificent sunset.

    San Antonio Beach

    Cullera has an extensive stretch of sandy beaches covering more than four kilometers. San Antonio is the most popular and where you can see the Peñeta del Moro island, located just opposite.
    The promenade is lined with souvenir shops, restaurants, bars and ice-cream parlors. On the Plaza de la Constitución you will find the Cullera Tourist Office where you can ask for recommendations and brochures of the place.

    Castle of Cullera

    Built in the 10th century during the Arab conquest of part of the Spanish territory, the castle was originally built for defensive purposes against pirate attacks. Today, much of the building has been reconstructed, such as the walls and some defensive towers.
    Its beauty lies not only in its architecture, but also in its privileged hilltop location overlooking the sea, rice fields and beaches.
    Inside is the Municipal Museum of History and Archaeology, which tells more about the castle and its origins.
    The base of the castle can be reached by car. People with reduced mobility can reach the castle by elevator.

    Lookout by Weather Radar

    Along a path that narrows as it goes up the hill, the viewpoint is a reference point to observe the seafront of the city of Cullera, the mouth of the river Jucar in the sea and the valley with the orange plantations, typical of the area.
    It is the highest point in Cullera which can be reached by car.

    Faro de Cullera

    At one end of the coast, the old lighthouse of Cullera is the protagonist. Access to the inside of the lighthouse is closed, and it is only possible to see it from the outside.
    On the left side of the lighthouse there is a promenade that in 10 minutes walk takes you to the sculpture "Agost" and the beginning of the beach Dossel. From here the views are privileged.

    Nou Racó

    Surrounded by a natural environment, it is the only restaurant inside the Albufera of Valencia, eating in the gardens overlooking the lake shore. It is an authentic Valencian food experience.
    Its menu focuses on typical dishes of the region, such as black rice, Valencian paella (chicken, rabbit, snails and duck) and noodle fideua. It also offers seafood, fish and meat. There is a children's menu and a playground.
    It is advisable to book in advance through the restaurant's official website.

    Albufera Natural Park

    The Albufera of Valencia is a protected wetland where the rice is grown, which will later be sold in the area and used to make paella and rice dishes.
    The lagoon is formed by the rivers Jucar and Turia and is connected to the sea, which is only one kilometre away, by canals with dykes.
    The best way to explore the lake is by boat, in the typical barquets, small boats used by the local fishermen. It is the fisherman himself who drives and guides you around the lake.
    The departure time of the boat trip is flexible, you only need to gather at least four people to start.
    The boat trip takes about 45 minutes along the canals surrounded by reeds. From the boat, you can see the different types of birds that come to the wetland year after year.

    Ruta Botánica por L’Albufera

    Explore the area of La Devesa, a narrow strip of dunes, pine trees and bushes that separates the Albufera of Valencia from the Mediterranean Sea.
    The interior of the pine forest has several hiking trails to do, which are low in physical effort and ideal to do with children. The paths are well signposted and vary in length from 20 minutes to an hour.
    The botanical route is one of the main routes along the small lake, the diversity of the plants and trees of the place. It takes about 40 minutes to complete and is of little physical difficulty.
    Consider wearing comfortable clothes and shoes for some routes through the Devesa.

    The beach is a must. Next to the extensive sandy beach, the sea in this area is open but with gentle waves.

    Gola del Pujol Lookout

    The Gola del Pujol is the ideal place to watch the sun go down over the lagoon that makes up the Albufera of Valencia. When the sun begins to set, the sky turns orange, reflecting this colour in the water. There is a small dock to sit and watch it.
    It is advisable to go to see the sunset on sunny days, as it is much better appreciated. In the months of March to October, the sunset starts later, around 8:00 p.m.
    The Gola de Pujol viewpoint is located next to the CV-500 road and the jetty. There is a car park nearby.

    Restaurante Ca Teresa

    On the way back home, stop by this restaurant which is very traditional in rice dishes. Its speciality is soupy and broth rice in its different varieties: with seafood, chicken, rabbit, duck and snails and duck with boletus.
    As in most places to eat, in the case of rice dishes and paellas, you have to order at least for two people.
