The Wine Region of Nantes

The "chaussée des moines" was built by the Monks in Vertou in the 9th century to regulate the flow of the river Sèvre. This causeway made possible to increase river navigation and therefore the transport of wine. Wine production has been important in the region for quite some time. You can walk around this nice place for nice views of the countryside and the river, only 12 kilometers from Nantes. Several hikes available around here.

The "porte-vue" is an observatory located in Chateau-Thebaud, at the back of the town hall. It offers 360 degrees panoramic view over the geological site with unique straight and curved landforms with a beautiful reddish rock. It is located above the recreation site of Pont-Caffino, 30 meters below the platform. And of course, beautiful views of the vineyards in the background.

Pont Caffino is an outdoor activities centre along the Maine river in the middle of a canyon. You get beautiful views of the cliffs, and you can practice water sports in the river like kayak for example.

Have lunch in this very nice French restaurant with local wines of course. You will be welcomed here with a blend of rustic walls and modern furniture, as well as hearty meal.

The Château du Coing is a small castle, family private property producing wine. You will get great views of the surroundings. They will show you the property and of course you will get a wine tasting at the end.

The Wine Museum of Nantes is located in the little town of Le Pallet in the middle of the vineyards. The building has a very modern architecture, half-buried in the ground. 500 objects are on display to show the history and the making of Muscadet wine. Your ticket admission includes one wine tasting.

Park your car here and head towards the river.

Check out this beautiful setting and if you have time, you can visit inside. It is a reformed papermaker and flour mill that has been restored and hosts now a paper museum.

Park your car at the parking lot of the castle to visit the castle first and to explore Clisson on foot after visiting the castle.
The construction of the castle started in the XIIth century. It is a very nice fortress to visit, to have nice views and beautiful pictures of Clisson around.

This is Tuscany in France. You can walk around this park of 13 hectares with many beautiful statues and columns and a neoclassical villa. The villa has some temporary exhibits sometimes.
