Historical Route Between River and Fortresses
This route starts from the city of Venice and will take you through some historical places linked to the First World War run along the river Piave, passing through the village of Asolo, with its defensive fortress on the top of the mount, until reaching the funeral site of Brion Tomb — symbol of modernist architecture — to end the journey in the medieval city of Cittadella.

Abbey of Saint Eustace
This is the first stop getting close to the shores of Piave river, an old Benedictine monastery destroyed in the 16th century and today reduced to ruins.
It is situated on the hills of the Montello in the district of Nervesa della Battaglia. The ruins were due to the World War I and the battles on the river, which created plenty of damages to the abbey, which was renovated just during the 90s and the 00s.
You can book a guided tour on the official website, but only on the weekend. The monastery can be visited without guided tour on the rest of the week.

The name of this little island comes from the unfortunate discover of thousands of bodies of young soldiers died during the war.
To celebrate the death of the soldiers during the 20s, there was built a stones pyramid with a helmet on the top and on the side walls the poem La Preghiera di Sernaglia" by Gabriele D'Annunzio.
