Yeste and the Way Back Stopping at Caravaca and Orihuela
The last village of Albacete on the route is Yeste, where its terraces staggered in the mountains are the base for the ancient buildings and the castle at the top.
On the way back to Alicante, there are two interesting stops to make. Caravaca de la Cruz in Murcia with its basilica and traditions, and Orihuela in the province of Alicante, famous for being the birthplace of Miguel Hernandez, the great Spanish writer.

Castillo de Yeste
Fully restored castle at the top of the village. Its high outer walls reflect the defensive aspect of its construction.
The visit has several interesting points as it is divided into five rooms that summarize the history of Yeste and its surroundings since the Middle Ages, including audiovisual aids.
For a time the fortress was used as a prison, and in its old dungeons there is now a museum containing traditional antique objects from the village.

There is parking space at the base of the castle.

On the outskirts of Yeste is the Calares del Mundo Park, an ecosystem where the landscape of the hills is predominant and native flora and fauna coexist.
The interpretation centre is an excellent place to understand how the park is formed and to see the flora and fauna that inhabit the place, with very didactic explanatory videos and posters.
From the centre there are also viewpoints overlooking the park. It is a very nice experience if you visit with children.

Horses Wine Museum
You should not leave Caravaca without visiting the museum of the wine horses, a local tradition that is maintained year after year and is witnessed by thousands of spectators.
The museum is a summary of what you can find every May 2, the day the festival is celebrated. The particularity of this tradition is that horses parade dressed in hand-embroidered costumes with details in gold, silver and bronze.
