The Ebro Delta

Get an early start from your hotel, as you've got a big day of exploring to do before heading back to Barcelona in the evening. You'll immediately drive into the Ebro Delta park, where the river meets the Mediterranean. This small pond near the inlet is a highlight, with plenty of birdlife to enjoy (including flamingos!) and some beautiful walks to take around the water and along the unspoiled beach.

After an introduction to some of the natural beauty in the area, you'll make your way into the area's main town, Deltebre. There's plenty of parking to be had, after which you'll make your way to this central bridge that offers stunning views over the river. A promenade also runs east along the river, the ideal spot for a morning stroll.

After your brief stop in Deltebre, it's time to start delving further into the Ebro Delta. Near the very edge of the park where the river spills into the sea, the beautiful wetlands are on full show. A unique ziggurat lookout lets you admire the area, spotting more of the wildlife and gazing across to the spectacular coast. Keep an eye out for more flamingos!

Playa Riumar is a beautiful beach on the shores of the Mediterranean, a peaceful area for relaxing. You could choose to lounge on the sand, swim in the sea, or enjoy a stroll over the sand dunes toward the Garxal Lagoon, a beautiful area of birdlife that flows into the Ebro River.

Enjoy a lunch by the sea in Riumar at Restaurant Vistamar. This establishment has a great outdoor terrace, although on a hot day the interior seating area is much nicer. Expect a classic Spanish menu: Seafood, tapas, and an extensive menu of different rice and paellas.

After your lunch, it's time to start the drive back to Barcelona, a few hours away to the northeast. But you'll take it nice and easy, enjoying a few stops along Tarragona's Costa Dorada. The first is the stunning beach Platja Del Torn, a spectacular sweep of sand and sea that's ideal for an afternoon swim.

Jump back in the car and continue on, pulling off to the coast again after you've passed Tarragona. Your route will bring you to this amazing lookout, Punta de la Galera. A lighthouse sits on the headland, where towering cliffs plunge into the blue of the Mediterranean below. At sunset, the light here is incredible.

From Punta de la Galera, it's a short 30-minute drive back to Segur de Calafell. This time instead of swimming at the beach like on day one, you'll enjoy a dinner at the port area. Restaurant Puesta del Sol is a popular choice for locals and tourists alike, a fantastic Argentinian grill.
Parking is easy, with a designated paid area right at the entrance to the port area.

To finish this two-day itinerary, you'll make the drive back from Segur de Calafell into Barcelona. It's been a long day of exploring and driving, so book one of the great hotels in the city for a good night's rest.
