Get an early start on your day, making your way out of L.A. by 8 a.m. to beat the weekend traffic. Today is for exploring Southern California's Palm Desert region. Spring and summer days can get quite hot, so I recommend packing water for the trip.

Located on 3,400 beautiful acres of land that overlook the cities of Riverside, this nature reserve has a number of multi-use trails that make you feel away from it all. Enjoy a short walk and take in the stunning scenery before continuing east.
