    Al Soudah Waterfall

    Rijal Alma Village

    Travelling around the Asir region, one cannot help but stop and marvel at the architecture of Rijal Almaa with its solidly built mini fortresses, placed atop the hillside.
    The village of ""Rijal Alma"", located 130 kilometers away from Abha in the Asir region, flourished over 350 years ago. It is famous for its traditional Arab architecture, its collection of charming and colorful houses, and its stunning views with a great history and exceptional features, which put Rijal Almaa on UNESCO's tentative heritage list. The village attracts large numbers of photographers and history lovers from across the country. Locals of Rijal Almaa are proud of their heritage, and have taken great measures to restore its architecture. In 2017, all sixteen fortresses of the village were restored. It has since won the Arab Cities “Mudon” Award for its architectural heritage. The costume in Rijal Almaa is the traditional delightfully colored “futa” attire, which is hand-woven. The inhabitants also adorn themselves with floral wreaths (therefore nicknamed Flower Men). It is one of the most distinctive but lesser known Saudi tradition of the kingdom.

    Rijal Alma Museum

    Established by the efforts of the province locals to preserve the heritage of their region, the village museum hosts a treasure trove of art and history; a repository of photographs, artwork, and archaeological artifacts. In 1407 AH, the museum began to exercise its role as a cultural and tourist channel. It consists of 20 sections, where the artifacts are displayed according to their use or significance, such as the bee’s hive, the guard’s room, the kitchen, the storing and grinding grains place, tools for agriculture, construction and transportation, weapons section, jewelry section, traditional medicine, handicrafts, brilliant man’s house, and ancient manuscripts, some of which are hundreds of years old. The museum hosts more than 2800 heritage pieces and 500 kilograms of ancient silver jewelry. Its collection continues to expand as stakeholders are providing the museum with more acquisitions.
