    History, Art and Nature

    Start this one-day route with a visit of two historic sites very close to Turin. The first destination is located less than half an hour's drive from the city. The proposal is to spend the morning visiting the Venaria Reale complex.
    After an Italian lunch, you will drive about 40 minutes to the second destination of the day: the Sacra di San Michele, from where you will be able to see incredible views. Finally, you can take a walk or do some water sports in the lakes of the Natural Park of the Laghi di Avigliana and return to Torino after a dinner in front of the lake and the mountains.

    The first destination will be the Venaria Reale complex. You only have to drive less than half an hour from the city centre to get to a place where you will be able to enjoy this 17th century baroque complex was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

    La Venaria Reale

    In the complex, you can visit: The Royal Palace of Venaria, commissioned by Duke Charles Emmanuel II of Savoy and Duchess Marie-Jeanne Baptiste of Savoy Nemours. If you like baroque art, you will be able to delight your eyes. The area of the stables and the chapel of St Hubert. The gardens, covering 60 hectares. The Castle and Park of La Mandria, with the royal flats.
    The time to visit the whole complex depends on the places you want to visit. There are permanent and temporary exhibitions. You can choose to see only the Palace and Gardens or also the Mandria Park. There is also a train that runs through the Lower Gardens for 25 minutes and a Fantacasino, a play area in the Upper Park designed for families.
    If you want to have a mid-morning coffee, you can do so in one of the cafés in the complex: one in the gardens and one on the palace tour.

    Sacra di San Michele

    The Sacra di San Michele is an abbey that was built on the top of Mount Pirchiriano between 983 and 987 and became the symbol of the Italian region of Piedmont. This abbey inspired Umberto Eco to write his famous novel The Name of the Rose and is dedicated to the Archangel Michael.
    From the top you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Susa Valley and members of the Savoy royal family are buried in the main church. As you walk around, you will be able to imagine many stories!
    The timetables change at different times of the year, you can see them when you buy your tickets on the website (in the winter months, it is only open a few days a week).
    Guided tours are available, but only in Italian, on Saturdays and Sundays, at 14:30 and 16:00.

    Circolo Nautico Avigliana
