Mountains and Monuments: A Day of Spectacular Beauty

As mentioned, Gori is the birthplace of Stalin, and the museum showcases his life and how he came into power and explores his role in history. His birth house is displayed outside the museum, and his private train carriage when he was the leader. Although many people don't think fondly of Stalin and what he did, this is a really interesting place to visit to learn more about the region, politics, and history.

After a historical morning, it is time to hop back on the road. Take a short stretch break at the panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Zhinvali Reservoir. Here you can get some stunning photos using the props dotted around.

Take another break and eat some well-earned lunch at Restaurant Guda. This is a Georgian-style restaurant, serving all the typical Georgian dishes mentioned before. I recommend the village-style potatoes and khinkali.

Gudauri View Point is one of the most popular destinations in Georgia, and it really is a must-see location. It is a mountaintop lookout with epic panoramic views.
One of the main features at the viewpoint is the Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument. A painted concrete structure that is not only a bold feature to look at, but it is also a controversial piece. Russian-Georgia relationships have been known to be rocky, and this monument contains a lot of history surrounding the politics of the area.

On the way back, take a quick stretch break at the black and white river. This is quite common, especially in Georgia, where two waters meet, and there is a defined colour line. There are a few reasons for this, but the most common is the debris or sediment churned up in the water. It creates a line of separation where the two rivers meet and looks magical.

Before you leave the countryside and head back into the city, take one last stop at the Chronicle of Georgia. It is a monument located near the Tbilisi sea, and Zurab Tsereteli designed it in 1985. Sadly, it was not quite finished, but it is still of importance. The memorial sits at the top of a staircase and has 16 pillars that are around 30–35 meters tall. Key features are kings, queens, and heroes.

Fabrika has become an epicentre for creativity in Georgia, and this is where you will find all the young hip students, artists, and creatives. The building was a soviet textile factory. Hence the name, and it is now home to many restaurants, bars, artsy shops and takeaway food shops. There is street parking outside, and when you get there, you can explore the courtyard to see what food you feel like.
