This homestead is the fruit of artist V.D. Polenov's boundless love for the Motherland, its nature and people. He saw the Oka River and its expanses through the train window, after which he had a dream to build a house and open a museum there. It took 5 years to buy the land and another 13 years to build.
The big house has been fully preserved since 1904, as well as other buildings. Miraculously, fate saved the estate from destruction, war, and nationalization consequences. For more than a century, its owners are members of the Polenov family.
