The phenomenal horizontal potholes at Brufjell were created during the Ice Age about 20 000 years ago, when the sea level was much higher. The unique potholes lay horizontally, around 20 meters above sea level. There are several, and are all of different shapes and sizes.
How to get there The walk to the potholes is through a forest so you'll need good walking shoes. Once climbing up/down the rock face there'll be steel bolts and handles in the mountain for when it gets a little steep.
You will drive on The North Sea road) to Ana- Sira. Driving down the mountain from Flekkefjord, pay attention to the sign Roligheten on the left side. You will pass a small town with a couple of buildings. On the left-hand side, take note of a sign written Brufjell on a stone wall beside a torn-down barn. The trail begins at this point.
The best and most convenient place to leave your vehicle is by the school that you would've passed driving just a few hundred meters back.
There is a trail that has signage along the way, when you reach the top of Brufjell you will notice a mailbox. If you like, you can write your name and nationality on the book. From this point, you walk head towards the sea following signs all the way down the mountain. At this point, the trail becomes quite steep, this may prove to be a challenge for people who are afraid of heights but don't be afraid, there are safe handles that have been put up to facilitate the short but steep climb.
