Ladoga is famous for its storms, so since the XVIII century, the rivers flowing into the lake were connected by channels safe for ships, running parallel to the lake shore.
One of such channels is Novo-Syassky, which connects the Volkhov and Syasya. Upon completion of construction in 1878-80s, 2 cast-iron lighthouses were installed at its mouth. On the left bank you can see an elegant red lighthouse, which is decorated with a commemorative plaque.

Volkhovskaya HPP is the oldest operating HPP in Russia. It was built in the 20s of XX century in the style of constructivism.
