Hermann, Missouri: German Heritage and Wine Country

Many people don't associate Missouri with wine country, but they'd be wrong.
Hermann, Missouri - established in 1837 by Germans who settled here from Philadelphia - sits alongside the once-bustling Missouri River.
The early German settlers brought their wine traditions with them and this small town is now known for its quirky architecture and wineries which you'll explore today.
After a pretty drive to Columbia, the afternoon and evening will be spent getting to know this small city with its historical university and great restaurants.

    Hermannhof Winery

The Hermannhof Winery building is one of only 100 placed on the National Register of Historic places in Hermann, Missouri.
The winery (and also former brewery) was constructed in 1848 and by 1852 was fully operational and pumping out millions of gallons of wine.
Prohibition halted the glory days of the wineries until a renewed interest in the 1970's saw the production start again with the Dierberg family.
Take your time to tour, visit the underground cellar and sample some of the favorites before deciding which ones you'll be taking home with you today.
