Three White Villages near Malaga with Castles and Beautiful Streets

After a good breakfast in the hotel or in one bar, start to drive to make the most of the day. You will take the route to the west to reach the first stop, but on the way you´ll stop to visit a castle that will surprise you.

The Colomares Castle is newer than it looks. It was built between 1987 and 1994 as a tribute to Christopher Columbus and his arrival in America. It is very interesting the amount of symbolism of Christianity, Judaism and Islam that you can look for.

The ticket costs 2.5 euros and is purchased on the spot.

The first long stop of this day trip is Mijas. Mijas is one of the most beautiful white village in Malaga (and closer).
Leave the car in the Mijas parking (near Mijas Town Hall) or in the street further away, like Calle Campos.
Be prepare to walk a few hours and discover some lovely corners.

From the Plaza Virgen de la Peña, you can walk to the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento), the Mijas Contemporary Art Center, the Ethnological Historical Museum (to learn about the town's past) and a wide variety of cafes and restaurants.
Also, in the upper part of the square is the Carromato de Mijas, a museum of miniatures.

✅ Open Hours Ethnological Historical Museum: Monday - Sunday: 10:00 - 19:00 Admission is 1 euro.

All three are small museums that are quickly visited. You can choose one of them.

If you continue along Calle de Coín and Calle Santana you will reach another of the places to visit in Mijas: the Plaza de los siete caños and the Ermita de Santa Ana.

As you walk through the village you will come across several streets like the Callejón de los gitanos with the typical flower pots on the walls. ¡Always have your camera ready!

The Paseo o parque de la Muralla is a circular route that includes the passage through the Plaza de Toros, the church of the Immaculate Conception, some water fountains with benches to rest, a sector with children's games and a flower garden (they have signs that indicate what flowers they are).
Also, you can see incredible views from the viewpoints because it is one of the highest areas of the town.

After walking all morning, it's time for a good lunch. Tomillo Limon is one of the recommended restaurants. It offers Spanish, European and international food with vegan and gluten-free options.

After lunch, pick up the car to continue to the next stop.

Before arrival in Ojén, folow the A-355 to reach the viewpoint. There, you will find a place to park the car and contemplate the scenery for a few minutes.

Now yes! You are ready to follow the road to Ojén. Before going down to the old town, you can see the Caves of Ojén, which were used for cattle and cereal storage. If you want, there are stairs to climb to the top, but you can observe them from below.
On the way from the Cuevas de Ojén to the old town you can park your car wherever you see a place.

The Fountain of the jets (Fuente de los Chorros o los caños) can be the starting point to walk through the old town of Ojén.
Get lost in its narrow streets and take lots of pictures. Keep in mind that there are several steep streets.

¡Time to coffee! Choose one of the cafes in the old town, such us a Pinchos y Chocolates for a snack. You can try the crepes with nutella. ¡Enjoy!

If you are still energetic, you can take a walk of less than half an hour to reach the Charco de las Viñas, a mirror of water surrounded by vegetation. To get down to the water there is a steep slope. But you can see it from the top.
Come back for your car to go to the next stop.

The last stop on this day trip is the Castle of Monda. After a drive or a walk through the small village of Monda there is nothing better than ending the day with a beer on the terrace of the Castle of Monda.
The original castle is from the 10th century but on its ruins was rebuilt the castle that we can enjoy today.
Walk around the castle and enjoy the sunset and the views from the terrace.
