Remnants of the Roman Era and the Harry Potter Backstory

Day three begins with one of Cumbria's most important castles, Carlisle Castle.
On the way to Newcastle, there is a stop to make. The Roman Emperor Hadrian had a wall built over 100 kilometres long, the remains of which can now be visited on the side of the road.
Near Newcastle, Alnwick Castle is one of the most beautiful castles on the route. Are you a Harry Potter fan? Then you can't miss it because many scenes were filmed here.
Finally, a short stop in the village of Amble with its small harbour.

Carlisle Castle was the scene of several conflicts in the past, mainly between England and Scotland. Queen Mary of Scots was imprisoned here, and it served as a prison for many years.
A tour of the castle includes the castle walls with their defensive batteries, the rooms, an exhibition on the history of the fortress and the Museum of Cumbrian Military Life.
One of the secrets hidden in the castle are the stone carvings, made by the prisoners or the prison guards? That remains to be seen...

It stretched for more than 100 kilometres, and vestiges of it still stand on the roadside today.
This fortress, which guarded the perimeter wall, is one of the best preserved and was strategically located to provide a view for miles around. The height of the towers and the wall is lower than the original Roman wall.
    Open Hours: Every day: 10:00 - 17:00.
