    • Discover the lake and its villages with an aperitif at the harbor.
    • Have lunch at "La Capannina" at the top of the mountain.
    • Stock up on local products along the way.
    • Treat yourself to a wine tasting in Valpolicella.
A journey along eastern Lake Garda, the town of Malcesine and its cable car to the summit of Monte Baldo. Visit a castle on the way back: cross the wine lands, reach the shores of Italy's largest lake and enjoy the breeze and breathtaking views from 2,000 meters above sea level.
The itinerary is designed for lovers of nature and less popular places. At the various stops indicated, take time to enjoy the view, tasting a white wine for aperitif, or a beer at the top of the mountain. A pair of outdoor shoes may come in handy, to make the most of your lunch at altitude.
We do not recommend this route in August or on Sundays because it would be difficult to find parking and the road slick, making the experience less enjoyable.
You end the day in a small hilltop village, surrounded by vineyards and lots of greenery, watching the sunset over Verona.

    Panorama Punta San Vigilio

Among the most fascinating views of the coast is definitely the Punta San Vigilio. Depending on traffic, you can choose whether to start driving on the coastal road as early as Lazise or just enter Garda. Take your time on this road, with more than one stop along the way.

Climb Mount Baldo. The peak is about 2000m and there is a funicular every 30 minutes to reach it, at a cost of 25€ round trip, per person. Purchase tickets here.

    Midstation SB Malcesine

From here you set off again toward the summit, again by cable car. The cabin on the second section, from San Michele to Monte Baldo, carries a maximum of 80 people and rotates on itself for an even more fascinating view.

    Malcesine Monte Baldo cableway

Once you reach the top, you can enjoy the view from a vantage point, with the possibility of taking a few short walks, before indulging in a nice lunch. We recommend La Capannina restaurant. Overall, spend 3-4 hours on this stage, between climbing, viewpoints, lunch and descent.

    FAI - Castello di Avio

Following the lake in the direction of Torbole and Riva del Garda, climb from Nago to Mori, from where the descent to Verona begins. Arriving in Avio, one of the last towns in Trentino, you can pay a short visit to the Castle, owned by the FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano), it is one of the oldest in the whole territory. Here between walls and gardens you can relive a bit of history. The castle was used to control the Adige Valley. Last admission is at 5:30 p.m. (in summer, otherwise 4:30 p.m. from October onward) and you can park about 500 meters away. Admission costs 8€. Then set off again for the Policella Valley.

    Pieve di San Giorgio

This small hamlet dating back to the 700s, in the middle of the Middle Ages, on the hillside, has beautiful panoramic views of the valley and might be the perfect stop for a glass of wine (drink in moderation!) at one of the small family-run inns, especially around the square.
From here you can see Lake Garda, Verona and the Policella Valley. The ancient church has a white bell tower. Parking is just below the church, you will need to walk about 200m.

    Bistró del Borgo Valpolicella

We recommend this restaurant for dinner. You can find a rich selection of natural wines and various local products, as well as a more classic menu. Open from 12 to 3 pm and 6 to 11 pm during the week, and from 12 to 11 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Reserve a table here. Enjoy your meal!
