Baikalsky Nature Reserve and Warm Lakes

The best place to start the day is the Visitor Center, located on the territory of the ancient Tanhoi port. The ferry to Listvyanka used to depart from here. One of the exhibitions is devoted to the Baikal ferry.
There are several permanent exhibitions in the main building. You can learn about the history of Lake Baikal, take part in an interactive quest and learn more about Russia's nature reserves. This is one of the best projects developing informative ecotourism in the country.

The Baikalsky Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The unique flora and fauna of Lake Baikal are not only preserved here, but also studied.
There are 22 ecological trails in the reserve in different natural zones: forests, meadows, swamps, tundra highlands. Animals and plants listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and Buryatia can be found here.
If you are lucky, you can see wild animals in their natural habitat. Observation sites are equipped for this purpose. You can also visit the ethno-town.

There is a fee to visit the reserve. It is necessary to obtain permission to visit on the website in advance.

You can view the photos taken in the reserve in the cosy Buuzna. The local cuisine is very tasty here. You can take your own food and have lunch on the embankment, admiring Baikal.
The cafe is open every day from 9:00 to 21:00.

The lighthouse is one of the main symbols of the town of Babushkin. The first settlement of Mysovaya was founded in 1760, during the era of the "Great Tea Road". Merchants, who brought goods from China, founded the Uzunsky Route. Later convicts who were exiled to Baikal passed through here. Before Circum-Baikal railroad appeared there was the only ferry crossing in Russia. And in 1918 the ferry-breaker "Baikal" was shot with a cannon. Its wreckage still lies somewhere under the water.

In the evening you will go to the Warm Lakes. There are three of them: Emerald, Warm and Dead. In summer, thanks to geothermal springs, they warm up to +28 °C.
The nature around the lakes is fabulous: relict poplars, which can only embrace 3-4 adults, tall ferns, fragrant pines. Warm lakes are part of the eco-park "Lakes on the Snezhnaya".
Here you can ride on catamarans, go horseback riding or order an excursion on scenic trails, as well as take a steam bath or Finnish sauna.

A neat chapel appeared here in 2014. It was named after King Solomon. The chapel is active and very cozy. It's nice to wander next to it in silence. Swans sometimes come to the lake.
To the left of it rises Monomakh's Cap rock. Strict pyramidal shape for the mountain is very rare. Its height is only 687 meters. From the top there is a view of all three lakes and the Snezhnaya River. In the distance you can see Lake Baikal.
